What is Thyroid Nodule Ablation?

Thyroid nodule ablation is the non-surgical destruction of benign nodules using high heat energy or freezing technology.

♨️

Radiofrequency (RFA)

It is the process of burning the nodule by creating heat with radio waves.

🌊

Microwave (MWA)

It is especially effective in large nodules by creating a wide heat area with microwaves.

❄️

Cryoablation

It is the process of completely destroying the nodule on a cellular basis by freezing it down to minus 190 degrees.

Advantages of Non-Surgical Treatment

✔️

No Surgery Risk

No general anesthesia and no incisions.

No Scars

The procedure is done only through a needle hole.

Healthy tissue is not damaged.

🏃‍♀️

Fast Recovery

Frequently Asked Questions

It is the process of destroying and shrinking the nodule non-surgically using heat energy (Radiofrequency/Microwave) or freezing (Cryoablation).

No, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Our patients do not feel serious pain during the procedure, there may only be a slight feeling of pressure. Mild aches that may occur after the procedure can be easily controlled with simple painkillers recommended by your doctor.

There are no incisions, no scars, the thyroid gland is preserved, you don't have to take lifelong synthetic medication, and you are discharged the same day without taking the risk of general anesthesia.

The ablation procedure takes an average of 15-30 minutes and no hospitalization is required afterward. After a 1-2 hour observation period in the resting room, our patients can walk home on the same day and comfortably resume their normal daily lives the next day.

Fine-needle biopsy is a very safe procedure. There are no restrictions on eating, drinking, or talking after the biopsy. There may be slight tenderness in the treated area on the first day; you can use painkillers containing paracetamol (Parol, etc.). You can remove your dressing 1-2 hours later and take a bath.

It is ideal for patients who have a proven benign nodule by fine-needle biopsy and complain of shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, a feeling of pressure in the throat, or an externally noticeable cosmetic complaint in the neck. It can also be applied to small thyroid cancer (papillary microcarcinoma) cases that meet certain criteria.

Yes, parathyroid adenomas causing high calcium can also be successfully treated non-surgically with ultrasound-guided ablation or angio (embolization) methods.

Yes, the nodule tissue that is burned or frozen from the inside by the ablation process is absorbed, shrunk, or completely disappears over time by the body's immune system. The risk of the same nodule growing again is very low.
