Thyroid nodule ablation, although it may seem complex from the outside, is actually a very simple, safe, and standardized procedure. We explain all the stages step-by-step for our patients to better understand the process and alleviate their concerns.

  1. Patient Preparation and Positioning: When you are taken into the procedure room, you will be asked to lie comfortably on your back. A small pillow is placed under your neck to make the thyroid gland more prominent.
  2. Local Anesthesia: Since there is no surgical incision, general anesthesia is not required. The skin in the area to be treated is numbed with a very thin needle. Subsequently, local anesthetic is also injected into the tissue around the nodule to ensure complete comfort during the procedure.
  3. Ultrasound Guidance: An ultrasound machine is used throughout the entire procedure. This allows the nodule, surrounding vessels, and nerves to be viewed instantly. This ensures that the procedure is performed with extreme precision and safety.
  4. Insertion of the Ablation Needle: The special ablation needle, approximately the thickness of a pen tip, is inserted into the nodule through the numbed skin. Thanks to ultrasound guidance, the position of the needle inside the nodule is clearly visible.
  5. Nodule Treatment (Ablation): When the needle is in the correct position, the device is activated, and the nodule tissue is destroyed by being "cooked" from the inside using heat energy emitted from the tip of the needle. This process continues under control until the entire nodule is treated. The procedure usually lasts between 15-30 minutes.
  6. End of Procedure and Observation: When the treatment is complete, the needle is withdrawn, and a small bandage is applied to the entry point. Stitches are not required. After a short observation period following the procedure, you can return home on the same day.
